Are Real Carbon Fiber Motorcycle Helmets Worth the Price?

When you can get a DOT certified motorcycle helmet for $29.95 and use it to stay legal, why not? Why pay 2 or even 3 times that amount to get a carbon fiber motorcycle helmet, right? What’s the big deal about carbon fiber anyway and why can motorcycle gear retailers, like The Bikers’ Den sell these carbon helmets at those prices? I’ve even seen DOT certified motorcycle helmets being sold at Target and Walmart and I can pick one up the next time I need some male hygiene apparel or heaven forbid, the wife sends me grocery shopping… something that can no longer be done on a motorcycle unless I could hook up a trailer, which may not be a bad idea…

Carbon Fiber Motorcycle Helmets Are Worth The Price

Getting back to carbon fiber motorcycle helmets, why pay more for a helmet right? Especially if all you want to do is wear the lightest, smallest and lowest profile helmet that is legal and DOT certified. Basically, the fact is that nobody has yet to find a material that is as light as carbon fiber and that will meet the Department of Transportation standards. And even though carbon fiber has been around for awhile, the manufacturing of this material continues to suffer from high costs of production. When you buy a genuine carbon fiber motorcycle helmet you really are paying for the material and I would urge you to be vary weary of purchasing a “real” carbon fiber helmet that is on the low end of the price range for that particular style, especially if it’s a lot lower in price, as in most things in life, you get what you pay for. If you’re buying from a reputable retailer, ensure that they carry several styles of carbon fiber helmets as 1 helmet does not meet all riders needs and they should clearly state if the helmet is genuine carbon fiber or just a made to look like carbon fiber design.
